Wrestling Fills Out Coaching Staff and Prepares for Upcoming Season
Following the retirement of Vic Stanley, La Salle College High School has named Richie Gebauer as the Head Coach and Anthony Panzarella as the Associate Head Coach of the La Salle Wrestling Program. Shortly following their hiring, Jake Bucha was announced as the first hire on this new coaching staff and will serve as an Assistant Coach this upcoming season.
Gebauer and Panzarella bring a wealth of experience to this program. Both coached with Stanley last season to lead the Explorers to a seventh place finish at the PIAA State Tournament, which included 6 state-qualifiers and four state-place winners. As a wrestler, Gebauer was a New Jersey State place winner for South Plainfield High School followed by a collegiate career that include placing at the 2005 EIWA Championships and 2009 CAA Championships.
Gebauer has coached at both the collegiate level, coaching as a Graduate Assistant with James Madison University in 2006 prior to the institutions decision to drop the program and then moved to Philadelphia where he became a Volunteer Assistant Coach at Wissahickon High School for three years prior to coming to La Salle. Outside of scholastic wrestling, Gebauer has coached 12 PA National Team Members and 3 All-Americans. Panzarella, a two-time National Prep All-American for St. Joes Prep, has coached at La Salle since 1999 where he has coached six National Prep All-Americans, one of whom went on to become a three-time NCAA All-American. Since La Salle's move to the PIAA, Panzarella has coached 14 state-qualifiers and 7 PIAA state placer winners and has helped lead La Salle to 4 Catholic League Championships, a 2nd and 3rd Place finish at the Southeast Regional Tournament, and both 5th and 7th finishes at the PIAA State Championships.
Assistant Coach Jake Bucha will make his coaching debut for the Explorers. Bucha comes to La Salle after graduating from Franklin and Marshall College last May where he compiled a 78-25 record and became a place winner at the 2011 EIWA Championships. "I'm thrilled that Coach Bucha has agreed to join our coaching staff", said Gebauer. "I've had the opportunity to watch Jake develop as a wrestler over the past few years. Our wrestlers have already begun feeding off of his experience as an EIWA place winner in addition to the work ethic and mental approach he brings into the room." Bucha graduated from Norristown High School where he compiled 140 wins, won a regional championship, and qualified for the state tournament.
"I look forward to hitting the ground running," Gebauer said. "We have a talented group of guys who have been working hard all spring and summer. They've shown their dedication to this program and to their individual training. I'm excited for the direction this program is moving in and am impressed by the support from the Athletic Department which will help us accomplish our goals as a wrestling program."
