Three Alumni Swimming in 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials
Blase Szyszko '09, Rhoads Worster '10, and David Speese '11 will be swimming in the 2012 United States Olympic Trials starting June 25, 2012 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Three La Salle College High School Swim Team alumni will be swimming in the 2012 United States Olympic Trials June 25-July 2 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Blase Szyszko '09 will swim in the 100m and 200m breast strokes. The La Salle University rising senior will swim the 100m on June 25 and 200m on June 28.

Szyszko qualified with a time of 1:04.68 in the 100m at the Princeton Olympic Trials Qualifying Meet on March 4, 2012. In the 200m breaststroke, he qualified with a time of 2:20.72 at the Middle Atlantic Senior Championships at Bucknell on July 22, 2011.

He is coming off an outstanding junior season in which he won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke at the Atlantic 10 Championship, breaking a 22-year old school record in the 200 breast.

In addition, Szyszko helped the 200-medley relay to a gold medal. The squad also broke a La Salle school record and made an NCAA "B" cut by swimming a 1:29.07.

Szyszko is also an Academic All-Atlantic 10 and Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area selection and will serve his second year as the President of La Salle's Student-Athlete Advisory Board in 2012-13.

David Speese '11 will also be swimming in the 100m and 200m breast strokes. He swam a 2:18.91 LCM for his 200 Breast as a freshmen at the University of Maryland.

David finished 6th overall at the 2011 Speedo Junior Nationals Championship held August 8-12 at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. Speese said, "I finished 6th overall and was tied for the 67th fastest time for 17/18 year olds ever. I hope Coach Lichtner is really happy having three of his former swimmers going to Olympic Trials."

Rhoads Worster '10 will be swimming in the 100M Butterfly. He went 54.86 long course meters 100 fly to qualify.

The rising junior at the University of Pennsylvania set the Penn school record in the 100M Butterfly (48.14) earlier this year and was also a member of the record-breaking 400M Freestyle-Relay (2:59:13) He is also a member of the record setting 200 and 400 medley relays and an all-ivy selection at Penn.

Worster is an Economics major and was elected captain of the swimming team after his sophomore year.

The La Salle College High School Swim Team won it's 1st PIAA State Championship this year. The squad has also won 24 consecutive Catholic League Titles.
