The La Salle College High School Indoor Track & Field team capped one of the best seasons in school history by finishing 4th in the Pennsylvania State Championship held at Penn State University.

The team was led by the Distance Medley Relay which captured the gold medal. The DMR received a very good leadoff 1200m leg from senior Andrew Stone, and then two outstanding legs by 400m runner Levi Hardy, and 800m runner Jack Magee. Both Hardy and Magee ran personal bests and gave the baton to anchor leg Tom Coyle with a commanding lead. Coyle, who was running his second race of the day, fought gamely to hang on to the lead and capture the second DMR State title in school history. The relay’s time of 10:19.47 was good enough for the #1 time in PA this year, and the #4 time in the United States.

The team also scored points in all four field events they contested. Senior Luke Persichetti took 7th place in the shot put with a best throw of 54’4.75”. Junior Mike Koller jumped an Indoor personal best of 6’4” to take 6th place in the high jump. And senior Corey Muggler jumped 45’4” in the triple jump to take 5th place, and added an 8th place finish in the long jump with a mark of 21’11”.

Additionally, on the track Tom Coyle fought off the effects of the flu to place 3rd in the Mile. Coyle finished with a time of 4:20.10 despite a tactical opening half mile of just 2:14. The 4x200m relay team of Corey Muggler, Sean Waters, Levi Hardy, and Luke McCann broke the school record which they had set at the PCL Championship two weeks ago in running 1:33.67 to place 25th overall. And senior Andrew Stone finished 10th in the 800m in 1:57.23.

The team will now have a week off before the Outdoor Track & Field season officially kicks off on Monday, March 4th.
