La Salle Fall Sports Preview: Cross Country

By: Chris Jastrzembski '14

The Fall Sports Season is quickly approaching as we enter the middle of July. The Sports Information Club is proud to continue into this school year, and will be led by Senior Chris Jastrzembski and Junior Collin Giongo, along with many other contributors throughout the school year. Stay up to date with the club at their blog atwww.lschs.org/wexpsports & Twitter @LaSalle_Sports

After a very successful 2012-2013 season in which the Explorers won 10 Catholic League Championships and 2 State Championships, the Fall teams will try to build upon last season's historic success.

Each day, we will preview one Fall team, with key games, key players, and much more.

Cross Country

2012 Season:

Like almost every La Salle team this season, the Cross Country team, along with the rest of the Running Sports, will get a major facelift this year. Two of the best runners in La Salle history are gone in Tom Coyle and Andrew Stone. Brendan Bilotta remains from last year's core group and will look to keep La Salle at the top of the PCL as well as at the top of the State in Cross Country.

Key Meets:

Briarwood Invitational (September 21st 1:30PM)

The Explorers look to improve from last year's 10th place finish in the Invitational.

Carlisle Invitational (September 28th 10:00AM)

The Explorers will participate in this Invitational after a one year absence. The last time they participated in this event, in 2011, they finished in 2nd place. Can they repeat a similar performance?

Paul Short Invitational (October 5th 3:00PM)

Also coming off of a one year absence, the Explorers will travel to Lehigh University in this well-known Invitational. The last time they participated in this event, the Explorers won.

PCL Championship (October 19th 1:30PM)

After 2nd place finishes in the last 2 years, the Explorers look to win their first PCL since 2009.

PIAA State Championship (November 2nd)

The Explorers look to improve from their 5th place finish last year and try to win the team's first PIAA State Championship in the program's history.
