Prior to the football game against Saint Joseph's Prep on Friday, October 11, 2013, substantial efforts were made by the students of La Salle College High School to raise money for various cancer research and awareness programs. The Student Council organized a "Dress Down Day" and sold special t-shirts that were worn at the game. The proceeds from these efforts along with $1 from the sale of each ticket was split amongst several foundations and charities including: For Pete's Sake, The Breathing Room, The Kelly Rooney Foundation, and the Oncology Research Department at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

This past summer, two members of La Salle community succumbed to cancer. P.J. Lawn, a member of the Class of 2012 passed away on May 9th and Michael Detweiler, a member of the current senior class died on July 5th. During halftime of the game, Brother James Butler, President of La Salle College High School, along with the Explorer and Jack Farris, Student Council President, presented a check made payable to the Oncology Research Department at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Accepting were Angie and Pat Lawn, Mary and Larry Detweiler, and Matt DeBattista from CHOP.
