Chris Jastrzembski '14 Wins Summer Internship with KYW 1060 Newsradio
Chris Jastrzembski '14, multimedia student and executive producer of La Salle's in-house TV Station WEXP, was awarded the Mark Drucker Internship at KYW Newsradio 1060 AM on Tuesday, January 8, 2014 as part of KYW's Newstudies Program.
A total of 105 high school juniors and seniors from Pennsylvania and New Jersey were part of the 2013 Newstudies graduating class. 30 kids applied for the Mark Drucker internship, and 12 were named finalists and were interviewed by Dee Patel, KYW's News Director.
The Mark Drucker Internship is named after the late Mark Drucker, who passed away in 2005. This is paid internship for the entire summer at KYW. Drucker worked at WMMR for their morning show and later as their News Director before moving to KYW in 1997. He was an entertainment contributor and worked there until his diagnosis of melanoma in September of 2004.
Since 1968, KYW Newsradio has given high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to learn about the inner workings of a major market radio station with the Newstudies student reporter program.
Students come to the KYW Newsradio studios to learn newswriting, reporting, ethics and interviewing skills from station managers, editors, reporters, anchors and guest speakers. Then they research, write and record news stories about their school and community. Chris was nominated for the program by Director of Multimedia Technology and moderator of WEXP, Rob Johnson.
