The La Salle track & field team captured the program's 3rd consecutive (and 4th out of the last 5) PIAA District XII/City Championship on Wednesday and Thursday at Northeast High School.

The team was led by 5 individual victories and numerous outstanding performances. Senior captain Levi Hardy was a double champion in the 110m and 300m hurdles, both in personal best times of 15.10 and 29.85 respectively. He was joined as individual District champion by Eddie Eason in the pole vault, freshman Alex Sislo in the triple jump, and Grant Jones in the javelin.

The meet began on day one with excellent field event results. Eason led Chris Losier and Jeff Beatty in a 1-2-3 sweep of the pole vault. Sislo led a 1-2 sweep of the triple jump with Tabriz Bumpas taking 2nd. Sislo also placed 6th in the long jump, and 4th in the high jump where Mike Koller placed 2nd and Jack Ewell placed 7th. Jones led strong throws results, where Joe Caponi placed 4th in the discus, and Rodney Walker and Keith Wagner placed 6th and 8th in the shot put.

On the track, on an extremely windy day the Explorers ran gamely and closed out the meet in fine form. In addition to Hardy's big day the team received big contributions from Charles Headen who was 2nd in the 200m and 3rd in the 100m (just 0.005 away from qualifying for States), Mike Becattini was 7th in the 110m HH, Bumpas was 8th in the 300m IH, Mike Phayre and Brendan Price were 4th and 6th in the 1600m, and Eddie Goebel and Corey Driscoll were 6th and 8th in the 3200m.

And in the relays, the 4x800m team of Ian Challingsworth, Stefan Sutton, Matt Magee, and Patrick Grant turned in a season best time of 8:05.78 for 3rd place. The foursome's time was just 0.09 out of 2nd place which would have automatically qualified them for the State Championship.

The team will be sending 8 student-athletes to Shippensburg University over Memorial Day weekend to compete in the PIAA State Championship. The Explorers line-up will be:

110m HH & 300m IH - Levi Hardy
200m - Charles Headen
Javelin - Grant Jones
Pole Vault - Eddie Eason, Chris Losier
Triple Jump - Alex Sislo, Tabriz Bumpas
