Ten Seniors Recognized As National Merit Semifinalists

The National Merit Scholarship Program announced the names of ten seniors from La Salle College High School who are semifinalists in the 2009 competition for Merit Scholarship Awards.

Founded in 1955, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation in Evanston, IL was established to reward high school students for academic excellence. Winners stand to receive corporate-donated scholarships of no less than $2,500. Last year, a total of $51.9 million was disbursed nationwide.

About 16,000 students nationwide were named as semifinalists, including nearly 400 from the Delaware Valley.

The La Salle seniors receiving the distinction are (from left to right): James P. Catalino '09, David J. Dickson '09, John E. Stumpo '09, Timothy M. Asztalos '09, Nicholas C. Rizzuto '09, Mathew C. White '09, Kevin T. Seybert '09, Jonathan W. Walsh '09, Patrick J. Gavin '09, and William Dearden '09.
