La Salle Names New Head Soccer Coach
La Salle College High School has announced that Tom McCaffery, formerly an assistant coach at the school, has been named to succeed Bob Peffle as Head Soccer Coach. Peffle stepped down on October 29, 2014 after twenty-eight seasons (1987-2014) at the helm of the school's soccer program.
McCaffery will take over a program that has made eleven appearances in the Philadelphia Catholic League Championship game, winning seven (1993, 1994, 2000, 2005, 2006, 2011, and 2012), and is considered to be one of the Philadelphia Catholic League powerhouses as well as one of the top teams in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
McCaffery is a 2001 graduate of La Salle College High School and has been a member of the soccer coaching staff for the past ten years. He was the JV Assistant Coach for two seasons, JV Head Coach for two seasons, and the Varsity Assistant Coach for the last six seasons. He is also a full-time member of the faculty at La Salle College High School, teaching mathematics at the school since 2006, and has served as an assistant coach for the school's baseball, basketball, and rugby programs.
McCaffery holds a B.A. from Arcadia University and a M.Ed. from Cabrini College. He was the team manager for the soccer program while a student at Arcadia.
A coach-parent-administrative search committee at La Salle College High School reviewed and interviewed candidates for the position and made recommendations to the school administration.
"We thank the search committee which reviewed and recommended candidates from an outstanding and competitive applicant pool and are pleased to see Tom in his new position at the school," said Michael A. O'Toole, Principal of La Salle College High School.
