La Salle College High School has named John Steinmetz as its new Head Football Coach. Steinmetz, who is a graduate of the Class of 1977, has been an assistant coach at the school for thirty-five years and served under all three of the former head coaches.

Drew Gordon stepped down on February 10, 2015 after nine seasons (2006-2014) at the helm of the school's football program. Steinmetz will take over a program that has reached the Philadelphia Catholic League Championship game eight times in the last nine years, winning six titles (2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012) including five consecutive. The program reached the Pennsylvania State Championship game twice during that same time period and won the 4A title in 2009.

Steinmetz began coaching at his alma mater in 1978 and has worked in a number of different capacities including Freshman Coach, JV Coach, and Defensive Back Coach. He has served as the program's Defensive Coordinator for twenty three years (1984-1992, 2001-2014).

Steinmetz holds a B.S. from Spring Garden College and an M.S. from the University of Pennsylvania. For the past twenty years, he has been employed by SEI Investments in Oaks, PA and currently holds the position of Chief Technology Officer. John and his wife, Mary Pat, currently reside in Hatfield, PA with their four daughters Christine, Michele, Mary Kate, and Colleen.

John Steinmetz looks forward to the opportunity. "It's an honor and a privilege to be selected as La Salle's next Head Football Coach, I look forward to the challenges and opportunities that await me. I've had the pleasure of working under three excellent coaches: John "Tex" Flannery, Joe Colistra and Drew Gordon. My hope is that I can continue to build on the winning tradition and standard of excellence that they set before me. La Salle is a great school and we have a wonderful group of returning players that I look forward to working with and together we will look to compete to win a championship."

A coach-parent-administrative search committee at La Salle College High School reviewed and interviewed candidates for the position and made recommendations to the school administration.

"John emerged from a large pool of very qualified candidates. His experience and knowledge of our mission and philosophy made me believe that he was the best person to guide the program in the coming years," said Joseph Parisi, Athletic Director of La Salle College High School.
