La Salle College High School's Class of 2016 led another record-breaking year when it comes to performance on the Advanced Placement (A.P.) exams. With participation in A.P. classes continuing to increase, our students have risen to the challenge of the rigorous and comprehensive A.P. curricula and proved their mettle on the intensive, college-level, end-of-the-year assessments.

To get a sense of not only the breadth of participation but also the level of achievement, consider these figures for 2015-16: 426 students took at least one AP course. The total number of AP exams administered was 880. 84% of all A.P. students earned at least one qualifying score of three or higher out of five. That figure, by the way, eclipses the state average (67%) and the global average (60%).

Perhaps most remarkable, 37% of the senior class last year was designated as an A.P. scholar, meaning they earned at least three qualifying scores, often many more than that, over four years. And if that weren't impressive enough, twenty of our seniors, having earned scores of four or higher on eight or more exams all the while maintaining an average of four or higher on all of them, were recognized as National A.P. Scholars. Twenty is the highest one-year total ever. They now join the 121 previous National A.P. Scholars over the past twelve years to reach this significant achievement.

Last year, we offered the highest number of A.P. courses with 20 subjects (24 including both subject areas in AP Physics C and in AP Economics) and of A.P. classes as well (44). New to last year was A.P. Comparative Government and Politics, and this academic year we will add A.P. Computer Science Principles.

Given the academic capabilities of our student body, the academic foundations they have built, and the dedication of our outstanding faculty, the prognostication for A.P. success in 2016-17 is bright.
