The La Salle College High School Cross Country team placed 4th in the PIAA AAA State Championship on Saturday at the Hershey Parkview Course, the program's highest finish since 2009 (3rd in 2009, and had been 2nd in 2008). In the Explorer's 8 years in the PIAA the team has finished in the top 10 seven times, and now owns four top 5 finishes.

The team was led by senior captain Eddie Goebel who finished 39th overall (20 team points) in a great 16:36. He was followed quickly by junior Steve Paul who finished 43rd overall (23 team points) in 16:39. Behind him the Explorers once again showed their strength and depth – incredible pack running, sophomore Evan Addison placed 59th (31 team points) in 16:49, then senior captain Patrick Grant in 63rd (33 team points) in 16:50, senior captain Frank Livolsi in 65th (35 team points) in 16:51, junior Brendan Price in 66th (36 team points) in 16:51, and senior captain Nick Camusi in 74th (41 team points) in 16:55.

The Explorers scored just 142 points, behind only Downingtown West's 57, defending State Champions North Allegheny's 105, and CB West's 132 points. La Salle averaged 16:45 for their 5 scorers – the fastest in school history at Hershey, and the tied the 2009 La Salle team with a 15 second spread from #1-5, which is believed to be a meet record. And perhaps even more impressively the Explorers had an unbelievable 19 second spread from #1-7, which is also believed to be a meet record.

La Salle's 7th running, Nick Camusi beat every team's 5th runner, minus Champions Downingtown West and North Allegheny. The Explorers will boast 3 of the top 30 returners in the State for next year, plus the PCL Champion Junior Varsity and Freshman teams.

The program will now have a brief couple week hiatus before beginning the Indoor Track & Field season in late November with racing starting in mid-December.
