Reverend Edmond Speitel, USA (Ret.) ’43 celebrated sixty years as a priest on Sunday, May 17, 2015 during a Mass at Saint Frances Cabrini in Ocean City, NJ that was attended by Brother James Butler, FSC and several other members of the La Salle community. Father Speitel was ordained in 1955 and served the Archdiocese of Philadelphia in a number of capacities including Chaplain at Philadelphia General Hospital, Drexel Institute of Technology, and Women’s Medical College. He was also stationed at a number of parishes and taught at both Bishop Neumann High School and Cardinal Dougherty High School. In 1962, he responded to the need for military chaplains and served as the Brigade Chaplain of the 9th Infantry Division during one of the most trying times of the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Legion of Merit along with the Bronze Star and retired from the U.S. Army in 1988 with the rank of a full Colonel. In October of 2011, he became the 68th inductee into the La Salle College High School Hall of Fame. In July, Father Speitel will celebrate another milestone - his 90th Birthday.
