La Salle Welcomes New Faculty/Staff for 2017-2018

La Salle welcomes fourteen new members to the faculty/staff, while an additional of six assume new roles.

NEW FACULTY AND STAFF FOR 2017-2018

Joining our World Language Department from Archbishop Wood High School will be Carmen Guevara. A native of Colombia, Carmen holds certificates and degrees from Universidad Libre and Universidad Nuestra Señora Del Rosario in her native land and an MA from Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia.

Bucks County native Carly Harbison will begin teaching mathat La Salle this year after six years at Villa Joseph Maria Academy. Carly played soccer and graduated from Temple University with a BS and is currently enrolled at La Salle University in a graduate education program.

Cornelia Kietzman assumes responsibility for our ceramics studio, continuing a teaching career that includes Abington Friends, the Miquon School, Greene Street Friends and a number of local camps. A graduate of Bryn Mawr College with further study at University of the Arts and Bank Street College (NY), Cornelia serves as Director of Programming at Six Senses Clay Studio in Mount Airy.

Joining the La Salle Guidance Department as Senior Counselor will be Sara Martin, who has most recently worked at Nazareth Academy High School in a similar role. A graduate of Saint Joseph's and La Salle Universities with certification from Holy Family University, Sara has also worked at SRI Psychological Services (PA) and Steininger Behavioral Care Services (NJ)

No longer a stranger to us, Jack Mills '12, our La Salle Volunteer last year, will join the English Department as a full-time teacher this year. Jack graduated from La Salle University.

Most recently from Ancillae Assumpta Academy and prior to that from Grey Nun Academy, Stephanie Rothenberg also joins the math department this year. Stephanie holds a BA from Stony Brook University, and an MAT from Montclair State University.

Steve Valyo completes a trio of new teachers in math, coming out of retirement after many years as a teacher, coach and administrator at Malvern Preparatory School. Steve holds a BS and MS from Tennessee Technological University and a certificate of advanced study from Widener University.

New teacher of Spanish, Elizabeth Wood, taught at Norwood Academy and at Country Day School of the Sacred Heart after working for Morgan Stanley in Baltimore. Liz earned degrees from Saint Joseph's University (BA) and Chestnut Hill College (MEd) in addition to study at the University of Salamanca.

Jennifer Worthington will teach Spanish at La Salle this year, bringing with her experience at Valley Forge Military Academy and at several public schools in Virginia. Jennifer holds a BA from Smith College and an MA from the University of Virginia.

Our new Administrative Assistant in the Principal's Office will be Jacquelyn Fix. Jacquelyn holds a BBA from University of Massachusetts Amherst, and worked recently at the Travis Manion Foundation.

In the Dean of Students Office, Kathleen Fleck will assume the responsibilities of Administrative Assistant. Kathleen formerly worked at Wyncote Academy.


FAMILIAR PEOPLE IN NEW PLACES - THESE FOLKS WILL ACCLIMATE TO NEW ROLES AT LA SALLE THIS YEAR:

Braden Bonner '07
has been named Associate Chief Information Officer and Director of Information Systems, where he will continue to work with CIO Pete Sigmund '85 and our extraordinarily capable and diversely talented IT staff. Braden recently completed his MBA at La Salle University

Lew Clark concluded his term as Chair of the Religion Department and will assume responsibilities on the administrative leadership team as our new Director of Lasallian Mission and Ministry.

Fellow member of Mission and Ministry, Barbara Chesnik will continue her work as Lasallian Formation Coordinator with assistance this year from Michael McCabe '08. Barb will also take over as Director of the High School Summer Sessions Program.

Carol Haggerty will shift to a new role, as a Mission and Ministry Associate, combining administrative and program work in several important areas. Carol has studied at Penn State Abington and continues her course work at Chestnut Hill College. She has spent 14 dedicated years as Administrative Assistant to three different principals at La Salle.

Tom McCaffery '01 will join the Dean of Students Office this year as Faculty Assistant.
