Speech and Debate Team Named Leading Chapter For 2016-17 School Year
It's the 1st time La Salle Forum has received this honor from the National Speech and Debate Association in 11 years.
The La Salle College High School Speech and Debate Team has been recognized by the National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) as the leading chapter school of the Valley Forge District for the 2016-17 school year. This honor is based on student participation during the year and is the highest recognition a school can receive from the NSDA. The Valley Forge District consists of 33 schools from the eastern third of Pennsylvania.
The 2016-17 school year saw numerous successes for the Speech and Debate Team. Patrick Kelly '18 won the Pennsylvania State Championship in Informative Speaking and qualified to compete at the Tournament of Champions hosted by the University of Kentucky in Original Oratory. Eight students (Ben Fedgechin '17, Bill Oxenford '17, Jack Martin '18, John Santoro '18, Jack Reckner '18, Aidan Young '18, Ian Mattson '19, & JV Fluehr '19) qualified to compete at the National Catholic Forensics League Grand National Tournament in Louisville. Four Explorers (Kelly, Martin, Oxenford, & Reckner) qualified for the 2017 NSDA National Championship in Birmingham, Alabama, last June.
It has been 11 years since La Salle has won the leading chapter award and is a testament to the 517 new members and degrees achieved by La Salle students since the 2005-06 school year.
