Track And Field Team Wins PIAA District XII Team Championship
The team will now head to Shippensburg University for the State Championship on Friday May 27th and Saturday May 28th.
The Track & Field team captured the 2016 PIAA District XII team title on Thursday at Germantown Super Site. The team scored 206 points to outpace Cardinal O'Hara (87 points), and win their 5th consecutive (and 6th out of the last 7) District Championship. Once again the team scored in every event contested and had several multiple event winners.
The team was led by multiple event winners Noah Walker, Charles Headen, and Winston Eubanks. Walker captured the Javelin (169-0), Shot Put (45-8.5) and Discus (142-0). In the Javelin he led a 1-2-3 finish with Tom Fasano also qualifying for the State Championship (157-6), and Mike Wells finishing 3rd (155-11). In the Shot Put he led Matt McDermott (4th in 44-7) and TJ Garvin (8th in 40-8.5) in scoring positions. Also scoring in the field events were the 1-2-4 finish of Pole Vaulters Luke Crawford (1st in 12-6 to qualify for States), Phil DiFiore (2nd in 12-0 to qualify for States), and mike Wells (4th in 11-6). Alex Sislo qualified for States in two events – winning the Long Jump (22-4.5), and placing 2nd in the Triple Jump (44-6). The high jump duo of Jonathan Squadrito, and Sislo placed 3rd and 4th (both in 5-10) to add points.
On the Track, multiple event winners and senior captains Charles Headen and Winston Eubanks led the way. The two combined in the 4x100m relay with fellow seniors Chris Della Donna and Kyle Johnson to reset their own school record and break the meet record with a PA#1 time of 42.19! Headen then won the 100m (10.96) and placed 2nd in the 200m (22.08) while Eubanks won the 200m (22.05) and placed 3rd in the 100m (11.08). The other State Meet Qualifiers on the track were junior Mike Becattini who placed 2nd in the 110m HH (15.71), senior Frank Livolsi who used a big kick to win the 3200m in 9:25.57, and the 4x800m relay of Brendan Price, Evan Addison, Mac Costonis, and Pat Grant (Luke Ullmann will also be in the relay pool at States) who comfortably captured the District title in 8:02.42. Other track event scorers were Peter Nelson and Jack McDonough, 4th and 7th in the 400m (50.65 and 51.54), Luke Ullmann 6th in the 800m (2:04.32), Greg Galbreath 6th in the 1600m (4:39.03), Eddie Goebel and Steve Paul placing 4th and 7th in the 3200m (9:49.79 and 10:03.13), Zack Beavers scored in both the 110m HH (6th in 17.04) and the 300m IH (4th in 41.44), freshman Luke Hardy scored in the 110m HH (8th in 17.53), and the 4x400m team of Peter Nelson, Pat Grant, Royce Xu, and Alex Sislo ran 3:28.58 to place 6th.
The team will finish preparations next week ahead of travelling to Shippensburg University for the State Championship on Friday May 27th and Saturday May 28th.
