Liturgies & Prayer Services

La Salle is a faith community. As such, we gather together "in the holy presence of God" throughout the year to worship as a community. Students volunteer to serve in variety of capacities, such as altar servers, lectors, Eucharistic ministers, and music ministers.

Students also organize and lead our popular Advent and Lenten morning prayer services. They take ownership of every aspect of the prayer service from selecting the gospel, to writing the prayers, giving a reflection, and performing music.

Scheduled Liturgy and Prayer Services

School Year Opening Liturgy

The opening liturgy for the year brings the school community together to celebrate the blessings of a new school year, the welcoming of new students, and the installation of Student Council Officers.

All Saints Day Liturgy

Celebrated during the school day, the feast of All Saints, a Holy Day of Obligation, provides for an opportunity to celebrate the lives of those who set forth and established our Catholic tradition, as well as remember all those in our lives who have gone before us to be with our heavenly father. The All Saints Day Liturgy also provides an opportunity to students to reflect both openly and inwardly as to the values of the saints, and our own calling every day to sainthood as followers of Christ.

Thanksgiving Prayer Service

The first of several prayer services throughout the year, the Thanksgiving prayer service is designed for students to reflect on the many blessings in their lives, as well as their calling to share those blessings with those less fortunate. One of the many organizations supported by La Salle will be represented during the service to offer their thanks for the blessing of La Salle students' in the fulfillment of their mission. Also a procession and blessing of the food collected during the annual food drive takes place during the service prior to its distribution to local food banks.

Immaculate Conception

Celebrated during the school day as a Holy Day of Obligation, the feast of the Immaculate Conception celebration is designed to focus students attention on how we are all called in a unique way by God as part of His plan, and more importantly our willingness to say yes to God in answer to His calling.

Advent Prayer Services

Throughout the period of Lent, weekly student led prayer services are held in the Marian chapel. Beginning at 7:30AM, the prayer services are intended to provide time for reflection on the many blessings in our lives, as we prepare for God's greatest blessing, His only begotten son.

Christmas Liturgy

The Christmas liturgy is a special celebration, not only of the birth of our Lord and Saviour, but also as a celebration for our senior class. The Senior Candle Light liturgy, involves the entire senior class in a candle light procession, and incorporates the musical talents from across a broad spectrum of the student body and faculty.

Ash Wednesday Prayer Service

Recognized by the church as a day where all Catholic Christians openly and outwardly display their commitment to Christ in the wearing of ashes, the prayer service marks the beginning of the time of preparation and sacrifice leading up to the death and resurrection of our Holy Saviour.

Lenten Prayer Services

Throughout the period of Lent, weekly student led prayer services are held in the Marian chapel. Beginning at 7:30AM, the prayer services are intended to provide time for reflection on the many blessings in our lives, and sacrifice of Jesus for all of us, as we head towards the triumph of Easter Sunday.

Lenten / Holy Week Liturgy

As we look forward to Easter Sunday, the Holy Week liturgy is a celebration of Jesus triumphant return to Jerusalem and ultimately His death and resurrection and the redemption of mankind. The celebration involves a broad cross section of the student population integrating the messages of sacrifice and salvation.

Ascension Thursday

Recognized as a holy day of obligation, the Ascension Thursday liturgy serves as a reminder to all of how we are called to walk in faith, living out our baptismal promises, and carrying forward the message of Jesus.

Feast of St. John Baptist de La Salle

This Prayer Service is focused on Honoring our Patron and founder. In addition, it also serves as an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the Christian Brothers among us who serve as living examples and role models in their daily service to the school and students. During this service the Brothers will also renew their vows, recommitting themselves to their mission.

Reconciliation

Reconciliation services are offered two times during the school year, once during the fall and once during the spring. All students are given the opportunity and encouraged to seek the sacrament during a regularly scheduled school period.
