La Salle College High School's theater organization amazed audiences with four sold-out performances of the Gershwin musical, Crazy For You. Drawing on the combined musical, performance, and technical talents of some 100 La Salle students, complimented by over thirty girls from Mount Saint Joseph Academy, Gwynedd Mercy Academy, Villa Joseph Marie, and Christopher Dock, the cast and crew delivered a production worthy of the Great White Way. From the set designs and costuming; to one of the most challenging scores ever written, flawlessly played by La Salle musicians and conducted by senior Patrick Tice-Carroll; the high energy original choreography of Susan Stroman; the great Gershwin ballads sung to perfection by Gwynedd Mercy senior Caitlin Aloia, and the comedic timing and tap dancing capabilities of La Salle senior Luke DeAngelis, Crazy for You delivered on every conceivable level. In addition to Caitlin and Luke, kudos to the supporting principles: Nick Parkes (Zangler), Clare Reckner (Irene), Joe Gerngross (Lank), Michael Duffin (Everett), Kathryn Murphy (Lottie), Marta Lawler (Tess/Dance Captain), Alyssa Mattia (Patsy), Jack Gimple (Eugene), Audrey Trullinger (Patricia), Joe Mele (Custus/Dance Captain), The Zangler Girls, and the entire ensemble, orchestra, tech team and costumers.

DIRECTOR'S NOTE

Who doesn't love a big, good, old fashioned musical? And that's exactly what Crazy for You is all about – all of the incredible songs from the great American Song Book; both the high energy and beautiful dance reminiscent of Astaire and Rogers; all strung together with a hilariously funny book. That formula worked for decades, and fortunately for all of us the creative team of Ken Ludwig and Susan Stroman took a huge gamble in the early 1990's to bring it all back. Wrapped around a composite of classic Gershwin tunes, Crazy For You is nothing short of a true American classic.

We chose Crazy for You for a host of reasons, but primarily in looking over our options and shows that would allow us to showcase the talent of our entire team, we settled on Crazy for You based on the incredibly complex arrangements that very few high schools could ever attempt, and our ability to incorporate all of Susan Stroman's original choreography. Building from that, and again being able to work with a hugely talented cast incorporating some of the most amazing vocal capabilities and comedic timing we have ever had the pleasure to work with, we knew we couldn't miss.

And while many are very familiar with our award winning music program, what you may not realize in listening to the score is just how talented many of our guys truly are. Several of our students are actually playing as many as five different instruments, some for the first time, and we have our first ever piano conductor - absolutely amazing.

As always, my thanks to the entire production team – which we expanded this year in order to support the growth of our program. I know I say it every year, but I am so blessed to be able to work with such an incredibly talented and creative group of people who not only share my passion, but for some reason always buy into my crazy ideas to see just how far we can push our kids and program. Neither they nor the kids ever cease to disappoint nor amaze me.Thank you one and all!

So with that, sit back, relax, tap your toes, hum some classic tunes, and enjoy our production of Crazy For You.
