Track and Field Team Wins 3rd Consecutive Catholic League Championship

The win marked the 6th straight track & field championship (Indoors and Outdoors), and 8th title in a row including two cross country titles

The La Salle College High School Track & Field team captured their 3rd consecutive PCL Outdoor Track & Field Championship Monday evening at Cardinal O'Hara High School. It marked the 6th straight track & field championship (Indoors and Outdoors), and 8th title in a row including two cross country titles.

The team tied their league record score of 217 points (set last year), and received scoring in every event showing a balance and depth that is virtually unmatched in program history. The field events were led by meet MVP Noah Walker who captured the Javelin (183-2), Shot Put (50-1), and Discus (157-0). He was joined in the scoring by Mike Wells (166-8 for 2nd) and Tom Fasano (156-1 for 3rd) in the javelin, and Chris Caponi (109-1 for 3rd) in the Discus. The jumpers were led by Alex Sislo who took 1st in the Long Jump in 22-8.25, 2nd in the Pole Vault (10-0) where he was followed by Frank Depman (9-6 for 2nd), and then Sislo was 2nd in the High Jump (6-4) behind Jon Squadrito's 6-6 1st place finish. Depman (38-8.75) and Squadrito (38-3) took 4th and 5th in the Triple Jump as well.

On the track, the Explorers were led by individual champions Octavious Carter in the 100m (11.05), and Stephen Paul in the 3200m (9:44.01). In the 100m Carter was followed by Dan Capreri's PR for 4th (11.45). The 200m saw Jack McDonough blazed to a 2nd in 22.67. In the 400m Peter Nelson ran well to place 3rd in 50.60. The 800m duo of Luke Ullmann and Brendan Price both ran strong for 4th and 5th in 1:58.16 and 1:58.60. The Mile trio of Evan Addison, Jack Seiberlich, and Vince Twomey crossed in 3rd-4th-5th (4:25.53, 4:35.32, and 4:37.33 respectively). The 3200m crew behind Paul showed impressive depth in 3rd-4th-5th-6th finish with Sean Egan (9:50.23), Nick Cardamone (9:50.81), Quinn O'Neill (9:55.51), and Ethan Maher (10:09.35). The hurdlers also scored big, in the 300m IH Zack Beavers was runner-up in 41.46, and Luke Hardy captured 4th (42.39). The 110mHH saw the Explorers grab 2nd-4th-5th with Mike Becattini (15.73), Hardy (16.37), and Beavers (16.48).

The relay teams all captured 2nd place to tally more points. The 4x100 team of Carter, Sislo, Capreri and McDonough ran a season best of 42.86. The 4x800 team of Conor Christian, Dan Boyle, Sean Grant, and Paul Ghantous ran 8:18.18. And the 4x400 team of Royce Xu, Luke Ullmann, Dan Boyle, and Ryan O'Neill ran 3:30.16.

The team will have a quick turnaround and compete in the PIAA District XII Championship at the Germantown Super Site (at Leeds Middle School) later this week. Day 1 on Wednesday will feature the trials of the 100m, 200m, and 110mHH, as well as the finals for the Pole Vault, Triple Jump, and Discus. Day 2, on Thursday, will have all track finals, as well as High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put, and Javelin.

The top 2 finishers in each AAA Boys event (plus any finisher in the top 8 who exceeds the PIAA State Standard) automatically qualifies to the State Championship at Shippensburg University over Memorial Day weekend (Friday, May 26th and Saturday, May 27th).

The Explorers are 5-time defending District XII Champions having won 6 out of the 8 District XII Championships since joining the PIAA in 2008-2009.
