The La Salle College High School Varsity Tennis team defeated Public League Champion Central High School 5-0 to win the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) District 12 "City" Championship on Friday, May 11, 2012.
In singles action, Brian Stefanowicz defeated R.J. Cherry, 6-4, 6-4. Pete DeWitt defeated Jacob Spivack, 6-0, 6-0. R.J. Napolitano defeated Daniel Spivack, 6-0, 6-0.
In Doubles action, Mike O'Connor and John Neufeld defeated Dijan Makarechi and Tyrel Cherry, 6-3, 6-0 and Eric Schultz and J.J. Plamondon defeated Avery Mitchell and Richard Kim, 6-0, 6-0.
With the team win, the Explorers advances to the PIAA Team Tournament for the 2nd straight season.
In addition to the team title, Brian Stefanowicz won the District 12 AAA individual singles title against Grant Boyle from Saint Joseph's Prep, 6-2 4-6 6-0. Rj Napolitano and Pete De Witt won the District 12 AAA Individual doubles title against Saint Joseph's Prep, 6-2 6-0. John Neufeld and Mike O'Connor placed 3rd by defeating Central high school's Doubles Team.
Stefanowicz, Napolitano and De Witt will now advance to the PIAA Individual Tennis Championships May 25th in Hershey.
