Two players from La Salle College High School's Varsity Basketball Team have signed to play at NCAA Division-I Schools for the 2013-14 season.
Guard Amar Stukes '13 has committed to play basketball at La Salle University in Philadelphia and Forward Steve Smith '13 has committed to play basketball at Fairfield University in Connecticut.
Stukes, a 6-2 point guard was named First Team All-Catholic last season for the Explorers. He led La Salle with 13.4 points per game last season.
"I chose La Salle University because I have had a great relationship with Coach Dr. John Giannini. La Salle University has been in contact with me from the start and has been with me through it all. It's also always been a dream of mine to play in the Big 5, I'm excited to continue to get to play basketball in Philadelphia."
Smith, a 6-8, 190 lb small forward, averaged 7.8 points per game last season for the Explorers.
Smith told Ted Silary of the Daily News, "“My dad did a spreadsheet that matched up all the schools in different categories. There were something like eight, things like level of interest, distance, academics, reputation, RPI, conference . . . couple others. Fairfield has been coming after me strong since April. Texting me ever since. “All of the schools that offered me were great fits. I just saw Fairfield as the lift, a home away from home."
Both players will be leading La Salle College High School's Basketball Team in the upcoming Winter Season. For more information about the La Salle Basketball Program, visit: http://www.lschs.org/basketball.
