Brother Kevin Dalmasse, FSC, a former student at Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School and long-time colleague of Brother Rene spoke of his legacy. Over one hundred former students, parents, colleagues and members of the Sterner Family gathered in the courtyard outside of Sterner Hall for the dedication.
During his tenure at La Salle, Brother René energized the school community and was responsible for two major capital campaigns that significantly increased the school’s facilities and transformed the face of La Salle. The construction of Saint Michael Hall in 1993 and the West Wing in 2001 added over 100,000 square feet of academic and extra-curricular space to the original building. The former West Wing was dedicated in his honor and will forever be associated with his efforts and accomplishments.
Brother René was also the head coach of the Speech and Debate Team during his tenure at La Salle. He was actively involved on both the local and national levels, and has been inducted to the Pennsylvania High School Speech League Hall of Fame and the National Forensics League Hall of Fame.
