Welcome to La Salle Basketball
Home of the Explorers!
Dear Friend of La Salle Basketball:
Thank you for visiting our web page. Our program boasts one of the finest basketball traditions in the Philadelphia area. La Salle competes in the famous Philadelphia Catholic League, one of the most storied high school leagues in the United States.
This year's team hopes to return to the form of 2009 - 2011 seasons which yielded a 41 - 11 record, a PIAA District 12 and City title, and two consecutive state playoff births. Led by seniors, Amar Stukes (La Salle University commit), and Stephen Smith (Fairfield commit), the Explorers hope to continue their run of seven consecutive Catholic League playoff appearances. Stukes, a returning first-team All-Catholic, and Smith both return as four-year Varsity players. Joined by fellow seniors, Patrick Cooney, Alex Cuoci, Malik Janifer, and Ryan Winslow (Pitt football commit), the Explorers should have some experience to build upon.
While the La Salle ballers hope to improve on last year's 11 - 13 overall record, their schedule leaves no room for error. The team opens it's season with a trip to the State College Tip-Off Tournament, which includes the host school, and state powers, Hazleton and North Allegheny. Also, on the Explorer's December non-league schedule are PIAA State Champion Imhotep Charter, Public League power, Boy's Latin, and state heavy-weight, Reading High. New Jersey's Roselle Catholic will also tangle with La Salle in a Christmas showcase. Couple those games with nationally ranked league foe, Neumann-Goretti, as well as Roman Catholic, Archbishop Carroll, and arch-rival, St. Joe's Prep, and you've got as challenging a schedule as there is in the Delaware Valley.
While the guys may not win every game, they hope to compete with class and effort in hopes of making every Explorer fan proud. Thank you for following our team!
