La Salle College High School AnnouncesTheatre Schedule for the 2014 / 2015 School Year
Fall 2014: Student Directed “One Acts”
This fall La Salle will turn the director’s chair over to the students through a series of student directed one act productions. Productions may be legitimate one act plays; student written works; an episode of a TV show; or any other production that would fit the definition of a “one act” play. Students will work in a supervised environment where guidance, coaching, and critiques of the work throughout the process will be provided, but ultimately all production responsibilities from casting to costuming, and set through lighting design will reside with the students. This is a very exciting undertaking and one in which we invite the girls from outside La Salle to participate – provided that members of the production team and cast are La Salle College High School students. A “Production Meeting” will be held in September to solicit student interest and proposals, and performances be held the weekend of October 24, 2014. Continue to check our web site at www.lschs.org/theatre for updates and proposal application materials.
Spring 2015: Monty Python's Spamalot
Monty Python's Spamalot, "lovingly ripped off from Monty Python and the Holy Grail" is a musical spoof of the Camelot legend and famous Arthurian fables. Based on the 1975 Monty Python movie, the musical opened in 2005 and no musical, pop culture reference or Monty Python skit is left unscathed. From silly walks to flying cows to vaudeville sight gags, as a musical spoof from one of the most well-known comedy troupes of all time, audiences can certainly expect varied types of humor.
The original 2005 Broadway production, directed by Mike Nichols, won three Tony Awards, including the Tony Award for Best Musical of the 2004–2005 season and received 14 Tony Award nominations. During its initial run of over 1,500 performances it was seen by more than two million people and grossed over $175 million
Performances will be held Thursday March 26, 2015 - Sunday March 29, 2015. Auditions will be held in early December, 2014.
About the La Salle College High School Theatre Program
The theatre program at La Salle has been in existence since 1969 and now almost forty-five years later, integrates the talents of well over 100 students each year including female performers from our sister schools, Gwynedd Mercy Academy and Mount Saint Joseph's Academy, as well as a variety of other surrounding schools, both public and private.
The overall goal of the program is to produce the highest quality shows while allowing everyone who expresses an interest to find their niche in the school's performing arts program. To accomplish this we produce two shows per year, starting with a comedy or drama in the fall and a full scale musical in the spring. The theatre program also provides an opportunity for students to develop and express theirs talents not only as on stage performers, but also as musicians, technical support, and in administrative capacities.
