Fall 2013: Student Directed “One Acts”
This fall La Salle will turn the director’s chair over to the students through a series of student directed one act productions. Productions may be legitimate one act plays; student written works; an episode of a TV show; or any other production that would fit the definition of a “one act” play. Students will work under the supervision Mr. Dominick and Mr. Norman, who will provide guidance, coaching, and critiques of the work throughout the process, but ultimately all production responsibilities from casting to costuming, and set through lighting design will reside with the students. This is a very exciting undertaking and one in which we invite the girls from outside La Salle to participate – provided that members of the production team and cast are La Salle College High School students. A “Production Meeting” will be held in September to solicit student interest and proposals, and performances be held the weekend of October 25, 2013. Continue to check our web site at www.lschs.org/theatre for updates and proposal application materials.
Spring 2014: 42nd Street
“Come and meet, those dancing feet” when La Salle performs the music and dance sensation, 42nd Street from March 13, 2014 – March 16, 2014. Based on the 1933 film classic, 42nd Street became the first Broadway show to successfully make the transition from the “silver screen” to the Great White Way in 1980. With and original cast led by the legendary Jerry Orbach, 42nd Street took the Tony Award for Best Musical, and had a run of nearly 3500 performances. 42nd Street is a look at depression era Broadway, where “hoofers” were the envy of the entertainment world, and worked for pennies a day. Filled with plenty of high energy tap and classic songs like “We're in the Money,” “You’re Getting to be a Habit with Me,” “I Only Have Eyes for You,” and the classic “Lullaby of Broadway,” 42nd Street promises to be yet another first for the La Salle stage, and an opportunity to once again showcase the breadth of talent of the entire La Salle theatre program. Auditions will be held in early December, 2013. Continue to check our website at www.lschs.org/theatre for updates and audition information.
About the La Salle College High School Theatre Program
The theatre program at La Salle has been in existence since 1969 and now almost forty-five years later, integrates the talents of well over 100 students each year including female performers from our sister schools, Gwynedd Mercy Academy and Mount Saint Joseph's Academy, as well as a variety of other surrounding schools, both public and private.
The overall goal of the program is to produce the highest quality shows while allowing everyone who expresses an interest to find their niche in the school's performing arts program. To accomplish this we produce two shows per year, starting with a comedy or drama in the fall and a full scale musical in the spring. The theatre program also provides an opportunity for students to develop and express theirs talents not only as on stage performers, but also as musicians, technical support, and in administrative capacities.
