2021-22 Health and Safety Protocols

Primary Principles:

Personal responsibility for oneself and the well-being of others.


  • Mask-optional in general
  • Mask use when in close contact for extended periods of time, when personally compelled, and when requested by a teacher
  • Plexiglass and more greatly reduced seating in designated areas of the Student Center and Library



  • Reduction in class sizes

  • Windows open and increased HVAC air exchange

    • Personal water bottle use only
    • Staggered use of the locker room
    • Reduced transportation vehicle capacity (50-75%)


Quarantine Protocols

  • Quarantine: Unvaccinated student has contact with a known positive within 1.8 m (6ft) for 15 minutes or more.  Quarantine can end 10 days after expose without testing OR after 7 days with a negative PCR or antigen test (must be collected on day 5 or thereafter).  
  • Quarantine: Fully vaccinated student who has contact with known positive does NOT need to quarantine.  [Fully vaccinated means 2 weeks following receipt of 2nd dose of 2-dose series; or 2 weeks following receipt of one dose of a single-dose vaccine.]
  • Quarantine: Persons who test positive for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies (IgG or IgM) do NOT need to quarantine.
  • Quarantine: Persons who have previously been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the last 90 days do NOT need to quarantine.  If after 90 days unvaccinated individuals will have to follow quarantine for unvaccinated above.

Promoting behaviors to reduce spread

  • Magnus wellness reporting
    • Hand sanitizer stations in each classroom and all common areas
    • Optional Masking, masking in the servery, locker room, and counseling, David Center, one on one tutoring when there will be close contact indoors for extended periods of time 
    • 1.0 m physical distancing options where possible
    • Permission to leave when classes finished after 12:30 PM


  • Healthy Environment
    • Added day porters (2)
    • ULV electric cold foggers for school building and equipment disinfecting
    • Re-engineer HVAC for 100% fresh air exchange 16 hrs/7 days per ASHRAE recommendations
    • Upgraded MERV filters changed bi-monthly
    • Reduced capacity in Glaser
    • Reduced library seating
    • Plexiglass in defined areas of the library and dining hall 
    • Reduced school vehicle capacity
      • 6 students per van or use of masks when full (9)
      • 24 students in METZ bus (1 per seat)
    • Glaser Servery Grab-and-Go options


  • Healthy Operations
    • Lunch periods alternate sides
    • Master schedule operates on hybrid or full-virtual only if necessary
    • Mask or proof of vaccine for visitors
    • Isolation Infirmary for someone who gets ill at school
    • Athletic Protocols
      • Mask optional except for locker room and fitness center
      • Limited or staggered use of the locker room
      • Indoor activities moved outdoors when feasible 
      • Individual/personal water bottles only


Infection Response and Mitigation

  • Protocols for families to alert school about COVID positive and/or exposure
    • Strict following of School Exclusion protocols for COVID-19 and/or exposure
    • Contact tracing
    • Quarantine requirements followed


Vaccinated vs Unvaccinated

  • Vaccines encouraged, Magnus confirmation
    • No quarantine or contact tracing for vaccinated students
    • Unvaccinated strongly encouraged to wear a mask
    • No unvaccinated students may travel beyond local events (Maximum 2.0 hr radius), includes student athletes, clubs, etc…
    • Teachers may recommend or request students or a student mask for certain activities
