Parents of the Class of 2022 gathered in the La Salle College High School Auditorium Wednesday evening for the annual Senior Parent Q & A Night hosted by the College Counseling Department. Parents were asked to submit questions in advance, and the College Counselors addressed those questions in their overall presentation.
Mr. Gerard M. Brett, the Director of College Counseling, began the evening with an introduction of the staff and the breadth of their experience in the field of college admissions. He also explained the importance of communication and engaged students as well as the roles of the student, parents, and College Counseling Department in the application process. He gave an update on the state of admissions on the national level, finding the correct fit, and an overview of the robust College Counseling website.
Mrs. Maura Diehl, Associate Director of College Counseling, shared important dates, deadlines, and timelines, as well as some unique insights as a parent of two college-aged sons and a senior daughter going through the admissions process. She discussed how our office communicates with seniors and parents, how seniors should use Scoir to sign up to meet with any of the 170+ college representatives who will visit La Salle this fall, and how parents can use Scoir to help their sons research colleges and costs.
Mr. Jim Sawyer, Associate Director of College Counseling, reviewed information regarding test-optional colleges, the difference between Early Action, Early Decision, Regular Admission, and Rolling Admission, and an overview of College Kickstart which allows students to check their lists for balance and opportunities.
After the formal presentation, the floor was then opened to additional questions. For more information, please visit the College Counseling Department's website www.lschs.org/college and follow them on Social Media via Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
