On Sunday March 1st at Penn State University, the La Salle Track & Field team finished in a tie for 5th place in the PTFCA Indoor State Championship.
The team received an impressive five medal (top 8) performances. Junior Tommy Christie led the way with two medals. Christie jumped 6-6 to finish in a tie for 2nd in the High Jump, and jumped 22-1.25 to finish 5th in the Long Jump.
On the track the Explorers received individual 7th place finishes from two senior captains - Eric Ford and Ethan Maher. Ford bettered his own 400m school record with a great PR of 49.77, he was also 21st in the 200m with a 22.65.
And Maher ran to a US#17 time of 8:41.59 in the 3,000m. The Explorers also earned a 6th place medal in a great race from the Distance Medley Relay of Ryan McGinley, Will Faunce, Griffin Pumilia, and Patrick Coyle. That foursome ran 10:34.38. Also competing was the 4x800 team of Dan Gervino, Will Rau, Brady Koors, and Griffin Pumilia. Unfortunately, after a strong opening leg from Gervino the Explorers lost the baton in a chaotic exchange and were never able to recover, finishing 18th in 8:24.49.
The Explorers will now transition to the spring Outdoor Track & Field season. They will open their season at home on Monday March 30th, and then go to their first Invitational at North Penn on Thursday April 2nd.
