The La Salle community mourns the loss of Dr. James Noone, a La Salle College High School Trustee from 2012-2018. Dr. Noone battled a very aggressive form of cancer for several months and died at home surrounded by his wife Mary and his four sons, Jimmy ’97 (Rachel), Kevin ’99, Brian ’02 (Kerry), and Michael ‘09. Jim was a dedicated and faithful Trustee who voiced his beliefs with conviction and passion. Jim and Mary’s sons played football and lacrosse at La Salle and, despite his demanding schedule at Holy Redeemer Hospital and beyond, Jim always made time to support his sons in their activities. Jim served as President of the Men of La Salle during the 1997-1998 school year and leaves a legacy of more than a quarter century of supporting a strong and vibrant La Salle through his wisdom, service, and philanthropy.
Jim was born on May 24, 1947 in South Philadelphia to James and Marie (Robbins) Noone. His sister Nancy was born four years later while the family lived in the Olney section of Philadelphia. They relocated to the Melrose Park neighborhood of Cheltenham in 1957. Jim graduated from Cardinal Dougherty (1965), La Salle University (B.S. 1969), Saint Louis University School of Medicine (M.D. 1973), and Georgetown University School of Medicine (1976). In his Junior year of Medical School, Jim met Mary Hussey of Goshen, IN. Jim and Mary wed on May 8, 1976 then moved to Rydal, where Jim joined the Anesthesia Department of Holy Redeemer Hospital.
Jim has served as Chairman, Department of Anesthesiology at Holy Redeemer Hospital since 1989. Outside of the hospital, he was a highly regarded medical malpractice expert witness. He held many positions of leadership in and out of the medical community, including: President of Philadelphia Society of Anesthesiologists, President of Pennsylvania Society of Anesthesiologists, and Member of the House of Delegates of the American Society of Anesthesiologists.
A Viewing will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2020 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Wackerman Funeral Home, 8060 Verree Road, Philadelphia, PA 19111. A private funeral mass and service will be held at Holy Redeemer Provinciliate Chapel on Friday, June 5, 2020.
