On Monday, March 21, 2011, thirty-two members of the junior class and six members of the faculty and staff from La Salle College High School converged upon New York City to meet with alumni and gain valuable insight into a variety of career paths. The primary focus of the trip was to acquaint students with the wide range of opportunities offered by New York’s renowned universities, businesses, and institutions.  The trip featured visits to the Public Theater, United States District Court, New York Stock Exchange, NBC Studios, ABC News, Madison Square Garden, and Saint Patrick’s Cathedral.

The day began at the New York Public Theater on Lafayette Street in Greenwich Village, where the students met with eight La Salle alumni. The alumni who spoke about their various career and educational paths included: John Casper ’87, a financial controller; Reverend Steven Clark ’72, a pastor in the Archdiocese of New York; Tim Erb ’94, a private wealth manager; Martin Feeny ’90, a senior vice president for an insurance and investment firm;  Jerry Hathaway ’72, a labor relations and entertainment attorney; John Zaro ’01, a financial planning specialist; Joe Zalewski ’03, a senior analyst for a capital management firm; and Walter Updegrave ’70, Editor of Money Magazine. Following the presentations, the students were divided into four groups based on their educational and career interests – law, finance, sports/entertainment, and media – and visited various sites directly relating to that profession. The day concluded with a private tour of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral.
