Blase Szyszko '09 and David Speese '11 Swim Olympic Trial Times
Two La Salle College High School alumni, Blase Szyszko '09 and David Speese '11 had Olympic Trial times for the 200 Breaststroke. The Olympic Trial cut is a 2:20.79 LCM. The 2012 Olympic Team Trials will be held next summer, June 25-July 2, 2012 in Omaha, Nebraska.
Szyszko swam a 2:20.72 LCM and placed first at the Mid Atlantic Senior Swim Championships held at Bucknell University July 20–23, 2011. The time ranks him 304th in the country for the 200 Breast. Szyszko said, "The meet was a lot of fun because there were at least 10 La Salle College High School swimmers present and past. We were all making cuts and swimming fast. If there was a La Salle College High School Team here we would have won the men's meet."
Not to be outdone by his former teammate, Speese swam a 2:18.91 LCM for his 200 Breast. David finished 6th overall at the 2011 Speedo Junior Nationals Championship held August 8-12 at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. Speese said, "I finished 6th overall and was tied for the 67th fastest time for 17/18 year olds ever. I hope Coach Lichtner is really happy having two of his former swimmers going to Olympic Trials."
Szyszko swims for La Salle University and Speese will be swimming for the University of Maryland. Both will be training hard for the Olympic Trials next summer.
