Varsity Soccer Team Wins Catholic League Championship

The La Salle College High School Varsity Soccer Team defeated Father Judge 2-1 in overtime to win the 2011 Philadelphia Catholic League Championship. It is the 6th PCL title in school history for the soccer program, and first since 2006.

Darius Madison '12 scored both goals for La Salle, including the game-winner 55 seconds into overtime. Emre Karatas '12 found Tyler Gimbel '15 on a corner kick who flicked the ball to Madison for the championship goal. Madison leads the team with 18 goals this season. Senior goalie Leonardo Romero, who entered the game with 12 consecutive shutouts, added 6 saves for the Explorers.

La Salle improves to 18-1 on the season, 15-0 in the Catholic League outscoring their opponents 61-1 in league play. The squad is ranked as the number two team in Southeastern Pennsylvania by The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Next up for La Salle is the PIAA District XII AAA city championship game versus Public League champions George Washington High School. The City Championship will be Thursday, November 3rd at 7:00 PM at Northeast High School. La Salle is looking for it's 1st ever trip to the PIAA State Championship Tournament.
