Swim Team Wins PIAA AAA State Championship
The La Salle College High School Swim Team won the school's first ever PIAA AAA State Championship on Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Bucknell University's Kinney Natatorium. The Explorers finished with 323.5 points, 113.5 more points than 2nd place and defending state champions, Hershey High School.
La Salle swept all three relay races, including setting a PA State Record on Wednesday in the 200 yard medley relay. Joseph Maginnis, Michael McBryan, Luke Maguire and Gregory Rogers posted a time of 1 minute, 31.83 seconds, breaking the Explorers' mark set a year ago. In the 200 freestyle relay, La Salle posted the fastest time in the trials with a 1:23.62. The Explorers then came back in the championship final with another gold medal when Eric Schultz, Christopher Szekeley, Rogers and Sean Regan combined for a time of 1:22.91.
In the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, the squad of Eric Schultz, Joseph Maginnis, Sean Regan, and Christopher Szekely won the gold with a time of 3:02:74, over three seconds faster than the other top 5 finishers.
The 2012 PIAA AAA Swimming and Diving Championships will be televised on tape-delay on the Pennsylvania Cable Network (PCN) starting Friday, March 16th. Day 1 of the Championships will air 8:45 PM on Friday and Day 2 of the Championships will air at 4:45 PM on Saturday. For more information on the TV schedule, visit the PCN Web Site.
In addition to winning the school's 1st PIAA State Championship, the squad also picked up it's 24th consecutive Catholic League Championship this season.
