Baseball Team Wins First Catholic League Championship Since 2005
At Widener University, the La Salle College High School Varsity Baseball Team defeated Saint Joseph's Prep 10-0 in 5 innings to win the 2013 Philadelphia Catholic League (PCL) Championship on Saturday, May 25, 2013. It is the 1st PCL Baseball Championship for La Salle since 2005.
Junior Dom Cuoci pitched 5 shutout innings, outdueling PCL MVP Tom Mullin for the 3rd time this season to pick up the win. Senior Chris Melilo was 2 for 3, with a double and 2 RBI to lead the offense.
Cuoci was 2-0 in 3 starts in the PCL Playoffs with a 2.47 ERA. Senior Joe Picard batted .750 in the playoffs (9 for 12) with 8 RBI and 9 runs scores to lead the offense. Click here for full playoff stats courtesy of Ted Silary.
In 27 seasons as head baseball coach at La Salle, Mr. Joe Parisi has now won the PCL Title 4 times ('88, '94, '05, '13) and won the school's 1st PIAA AAAA State Championship in 2012.

The Explorers will now face Public League Champions Frankford High School in the District XII AAAA Championship on Thursday, 1 PM at Ashburn Field. The winner advances to the PIAA AAAA State Playoffs. The Explorers are the defending PIAA AAAA State Champions.
With this win, La Salle College High School has won 10 Catholic League Championships during the 2012-13 School Year (Golf, Soccer, Football, Wrestling, Swimming, Indoor Track, Tennis, Lacrosse, Baseball, Outdoor Track). The Explorer Hockey Team also won the 2013 Flyers Cup.
