Indoor Track and Field has Strong Showing at PIAA State Championship Meet
The La Salle College High School Indoor Track and Field team had a tremendous day at the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletics Association (PIAA) State Championship Meet on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Penn State University.
The day began with senior captain Tom O'Kane '10 running a personal best of 4:20.23 to place 7th in the Mile (the 47th best time in the United States this season). Tom ran a great race despite the slow early pace (2:13 at 1/2 mile) to set the tone for the day for the Explorers.
In the 3000 Meter run La Salle had the most qualifiers of any team in the state, and the three runners showed why La Salle is a distance power in the state. Junior Thomas Trainer ran a very tough race to a personal record by 9 seconds and place 9th in the state in 8:50.55 (the 27th best time in the United States this season, and equivalent to a 9:30 2 mile). Senior Shawn Quinn also set a personal record in the 3000 M running 8:59.33 to place 13th and James Stevenson placed 21st.
La Salle's two Pole Vaulters Beau Whitman (13'6") and Mark Angillilo (12'6") placed 8th and 17th respectively for a solid showing.
Concluding the day for the Explorers was the 4x800 meter relay. The team placed 4th in an excellent time of 7:58.08, the 16th best time in the United States this season! The team got outstanding races from leadoff leg Dan LaMorte (1:59.4), freshman Andrew Stone (1:59.2), Chris Muggler (2:00.8), and Tom O'Kane (1:58.4).
