The La Salle Cross Country team travelled to Carlisle High School over the weekend to compete in one of the largest meets in the state of Pennsylvania, the 25th Annual Carlisle Meet of Champions.

The day began with the Freshman race, and the freshman team placed 2nd. Led by a great run from Owen Norris who finished 17th in 17:57 the team placed 4 runners in the top 30 and all 5 scorers in the top 40. Norris was followed by a tight pack of AJ Frank (22nd in 18:10), Michael Lombardi (24th in 18:14), and Patrick Coyle (30th in 18:26), and the scoring was rounded out by Brendan Fry (40th in 18:40). The freshman's 99 points trailed only Central Cambria by a mere 9 points.

The next race of the day was the 10th-12th grade JV race, a race in which the Explorers showed some impressive depth. The JV team placed 6 runners in the top 9 to easily win 22 – 142 over Cumberland Valley. The trio of Thomas Price (16:46), Griffin Pumilia (16:47), and Conor Christian (16:49) led the team placing 2nd-3rd-4th. They were quickly followed by Matthew Zilligen (17:09), Dan Gervino (17:14), and Jimmy Lombardi (17:21) in 6th-7th-9th. The JV team then placed an additional 6 runners under 18:00, and another 4 under 19:00. The 5 scorers for the JV team averaged an incredible 16:57, which would have been 13th in the varsity race!

The final race of the day was the varsity Challenge Race featuring defending PIAA State Champions Council Rock North, and some other top rated programs in PA, NJ, WV. The team was led by one of (if not the) fastest 5k times in school history. Senior captain Evan Addison ran a tough, hard-fought race to claim the individual title in 15:21. Behind him came the incredibly impressive races from the sophomore duo of Vince Twomey and Ethan Maher who both broke 16:00, running 15:58 and 15:59 for 14th and 16th respectively. Sean Egan then closed out a huge PR in 16:07 to finish 20th. Scoring was rounded out by sophomore Brady Koors in 36th place running 16:25. And not far behind him were 6th and 7th runners juniors Jack Seiberlich and Paul Ghantous placing 38th and 43rd in PRs of 16:31 and 16:37. The team averaged an impressive 15:58 for their 5 scorers and scored 83 points to win over CR North's 109.

The team has two remaining PCL regular season meets the next two Wednesdays. Then they will compete in their final Invitational of the year on Saturday, October 14th at New York's Van Cortland Park in the Manhattan College Invitational (where the Varsity team will run in the Eastern States Championship).
