Reverend Robert H. Breen '45, Pastor Emeritus, Saint Lawrence Parish, Riegelsville, died on Thursday, August 2, 2018.

Father Breen was born on February 21, 1927, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He is the son of the late Owen James Breen, Sr. and the late Catharine (Smith) Breen. Father Breen attended Holy Child Parochial School and La Salle College High School, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary. A true "Brother's Boy", he was inducted into the La Salle High School Hall of Fame in 1976.

Father Breen was ordained on May 11, 1957, at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Philadelphia, by Most Reverend John O'Hara, C.S.C. Father Breen served as Parochial Vicar, Saint Joseph Parish, Frackville. He also served on the Faculty, Cardinal Dougherty High School, Philadelphia, for 35 years. In 1992, he was appointed Pastor, Saint Lawrence Parish, Riegelsville, and named Pastor Emeritus there in 2002.

Father Breen was a teacher, coach, and mentor to countless students, parishioners, and friends throughout his lifetime. A lover of athletics, you could always find him at the Palestra, Temple Stadium, the Vet, and on the golf course. He coached golf at Cardinal Dougherty High School and La Salle University. He served as the chaplain of the Temple football team in the 1960s, the La Salle University basketball team in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1970s, the Markward Club and many other sports teams and organizations.

A viewing will be held at Givnish Funeral Home, 10925 Academy Road, Philadelphia, on Wednesday, August 9, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Reception of the Body will be held at Saint Andrew Church, Drexel Hill on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 9:00 am, followed by a viewing.

Most Reverend Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Father Breen at Saint Andrew Church, Drexel Hill, on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at 11:00 am. Among those concelebrating the Mass will be Reverend Joseph Howarth, Reverend Christopher Rogers, and Reverend James Sullivan will be the homilist. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Philadelphia.

Father Breen is survived by his sister-in-law, Juliet Krag Breen; niece: Catharine Breen; nephews: Owen Breen '65, Michael Breen '72, and Christopher Breen '78, He is predeceased by his nephew, Robert Breen '80.
