Patrick Kelly '18 of the La Salle College High School Speech and Debate Team placed 6th in Informative Speaking at the 2017 Glenbrooks Invitational in Northbrook, IL. This tournament, hosted by Glenbrook North and South High Schools, brought over 280 schools and 2,000 students from over 35 states together for three days of competition.

Patrick made it to the final round in Informative outlasting a field of 85 speakers. In Informative, students must prepare and memorize a ten-minute speech informing the judge and fellow competitors about an important and/or interesting topic. Patrick wrote his speech on the history, growth, and discrimination of dialogues in the United States–using comedic examples of our local Philadelphia dialect, before turning to the more serious topic of dialogue discrimination and its lasting impacts on education and justice.

Patrick built off a strong start to his senior year. Previously, Patrick qualified to the Tournament of Champions in Original Oratory by placing 13th at the Yale University Invitational and 15th at the New York City Invitational. The Speech and Debate Team next travels to George Mason University on December 1st for the Patriot Games Classic Invitational, before hosting the La Salle Forum Invitational on December 9th.
