Swim Team Wins 29th Consecutive Catholic League Championship

The 5-time defending State Champions also won their 9th straight PIAA District XII Title.


The La Salle College High School Swimming Program won their 29th consecutive Philadelphia Catholic League Championship and 9th Consecutive PIAA District XII Championship on Saturday, February 11th at La Salle University.

At the Championships, every swimmer improved his time. The team dominated first overall in the PCL with 985.5 points finishing over 400 points ahead of 2nd place.

The Explorers were led by senior Jake Sannem '17, who captured gold in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:38.91) and 500-yard freestyle (4:35.22) events and received the Frank J. Lichtner Award for the second year in a row.

Freshmen teammate Liam Smith placed first in the 100-yard freestyle (48.11) and second in the 200-yard freestyle (142.41).

After a triumphant weekend, the team is preparing to defend their PIAA State Title March 17th-18th at Bucknell University. The Explorers are the 5-time defending PIAA State Champions and defending National Champions according to Swimming World Magazine.
