Track and Field Team Wins 7th Straight District XII City Championship

Fifteen Explorers qualified for the PIAA State Championship at Shippensburg University Memorial Day Weekend.

The La Salle Track & Field team captured the 2018 PIAA District XII Championship on Thursday, ay 17th. The win marks the 7th consecutive Outdoor Track & Field District title for the Explorers and their 8th title out of their 10 years in the PIAA. The team ended the day with 15 qualifiers to the PIAA State Championship at Shippensburg University over Memorial Day Weekend.

2018 PIAA State Championship Qualifiers

High Jump - the high jump duo of Jon Squadrito and freshman Tommy Christie placed 1st and 2nd in 6-4 and 6-2.

Javelin & Shot Put - Leland Mersky and Derek Beavers finished 1st and 2nd in Javelin, and Mersky also threw 47-0 to place 2nd in the Shot Put to qualify in 2 events.

300mIH - Luke Hardy won the District title in a PR of 40.81.

4x800m relay - the team of Mac Costonis, Matthew Zilligen, Paul Ghantous, and Dan Boyle ran 8:05.61 to win the District title.

800m - Senior Thomas Price ran 2:02.47 to place 2nd and qualify for his first State meet.

3200m - two sophomores, Bradden Koors and Ethan Maher placed 1st and 2nd in 9:43.30 and 9:43.87 to qualify.

1600m - in the race of the day senior captain Evan Addison blitzed a new District Meet record of 4:13.85, and led home sophomore Vincent Twomey (4:21.64), and junior Jack Seiberlich (4:22.99) who were both under the State Qualifying Standard to give the Explorers 3 1600m runners at States for the first time in school history.

Sean Egan - 3200m 3rd place

Evan Wang - 300m IH 6th place

Andrew Della Penna - 300mIH 8th place

4x400m relay (Eric Ford, Mac Costonis, Ryan O'Neill, Dan Boyle) - 6th place

Larson Kalinowski - Triple Jump 7th place

Ben Rawson - Pole Vault 1st place

Tommy Christie - Pole Vault 3rd place

Max Flynn - Pole Vault 4th place

Matt Zoglio - Discus 5th place

Liam Tatlonghari - Discus 6th place

Joe Cassizzi - Javelin 7th place

Brian Grady - Shot Put 6th place
