Water Polo Team Finishes 5th in PIAA State Tournament

Four Explorers were also named to the All-State Team.


La Salle Water Polo finished their season with a strong finish at the PIAA State Championship held at Wilson High School in Reading on October 27th and October 28th.

After losing to North Penn High School on Friday evening, the team rallied back to have 2 terrific victories against Cumberland Valley High School and Governor Mifflin High School. La Salle entered the tournament seeded 7th and concluded the championship as the 5th place team in the state.

Leading the Varsity and JV teams this season, captains James McErlean '18, Tommy Dougherty '18, Rob Koch '18, and Patrick Scheffey '18 guided the team not only during the season but during this challenging state championship as well. Head Coach Rob Halligan and Assistant Coaches Kyle Finlay '09 and Matt del Rio all commented on how the team really clicked this weekend and that they were fun to watch.

In addition to the 5th place finish, the team was the Runner Up for the Eastern Conference.

All-State Recognition went to:

  • 1st Team All-State: James McErlean '18
  • 2nd Team All-State: Tommy Dougherty '18
  • All-State Honorable Mention: Rob Koch '18 and Matt Lewis '19

Rookie Finalist: Ryan McLaughlin '21
