May 15, 2019, the feast day of our founder and namesake Saint John Baptist de La Salle, marked the first-ever #LSCHSGIVES Day of Giving. In true La Salle fashion, support was incredible and widespread, shattering the “a gift for every senior” goal of 263 gifts with a total of 427. The day was kicked off with a gift of our own to the Class of 2019, as donuts were provided to each and every senior in gratitude for their generosity and commitment to service. With video features released throughout the day focused on the value of giving and generosity in our community, the greater La Salle community heard from the likes of Mrs. Julie Maher (Hon.)‘14, Mr. Joe Parisi, Brother William DiPasquale, FSC, John Lacca ’19, Mrs. Diana McInaw, Mr. Bill Donohoe ‘96, and Mr. Kevin Dougherty ‘00.
Adding to the excitement, Matt Alba ’08, morning news reporter for PHL17, joined us on campus and conducted live interviews and look-ins from our Facebook page, highlighting the many different facets of a day here in Wyndmoor. Those kind enough to take a moment to speak with Matt were Brother James Butler, FSC, President, Mr. Michael O’Toole ’68, Principal, Mr. Mike McCabe ‘08, Religion Chair and Speech/Debate Coach, Mrs. Carol Haggerty, Mission & Ministry Associate, and Mr. Gerard Brett, Director of College Counseling and Head Tennis Coach. To re-watch any of the features or interviews from the day, you can visit our Facebook videos page, located at www.facebook.com/lschs/videos. Special thanks goes out to the First Period Advanced Multimedia class and the Technology/Multimedia Departments for their efforts in producing the many video and technology features that played a part in #LSCHSGIVES.
When the dust settled, the greater La Salle community accumulated 427 gifts, surpassing the 263 gift goal by 62%. With support across the board to 18 different funds/initiatives, these gifts totaled $70,913.27, ensuring that La Salle remains accessible, vibrant, and committed to service. Among the popular funds were The De La Salle Alumni Annual Fund in support of financial aid, The Parent and Grandparent Annual Funds in support of professional development, The Julia K. and John F. Maher Fund in support of Mission & Ministry, The Brother Kevin M. Dalmasse, FSC Forum Fund, The David Program Grant Fund, and the Faculty/Staff Annual Fund in support of the Student Emergency Fund. Our extended Lasallian community certainly matched the generosity we see each and every day here from our student body, and we cannot thank you enough for joining this first-ever 24-hour marathon of giving!
