La Salle Names Michael Brown ’76 as Head Coach of the Rowing Program

La Salle College High School is pleased to announce that Michael Brown, a member of the Class of 1976, has been named as head coach of the rowing program. A champion oarsman at La Salle, Mr. Brown returns to his alma mater after a successful 15-year stint as founding coach of the rowing program at Merion Mercy Academy. Among Mr. Brown’s achievements at Merion Mercy were the Groton Cup Championship at the Henley Women’s Regatta in 2011, a USRowing Youth National Championship in 2019, and multiple individual and team medals in the Scholastic Rowing Association of America National Championship, along with a Stotesbury Cup, Philadelphia City Championship, and a USRowing MidAtlantic District Championship.


During his time at his alma mater, Mr. Brown won the Varsity Eight Catholic League Championship and the Varsity Four Stotesbury Cup Championship in 1976. A former member of La Salle’s Board of Trustees, Mr. Brown is currently a real estate and investment adviser with his own firms, Brown Ventures and Resolution Realty. Prior to his current ventures, he worked with the O’Neill Property Group after a long career in senior executive positions at various financial institutions, including Citizens Bank, Fleet Bank/United Jersey Bank, and Provident National Bank.

 

Mr. Brown holds a B.S. from Villanova University and was a member of USRowing National Championship quads in 1984 and was a World Rowing Masters Champion in 2010. A member of the Malta Boat Club since 1972, Mr. Brown served as its President from 1995 to 2015. He was the Schuylkill Navy Coach-of-the-Year in 2012. Asked about his return to La Salle, Mr. Brown stated simply, “I want to give back to a place that gave me so much.” Joseph Parisi, La Salle’s Athletic Administrator, commented “Michael’s experience combined with his enthusiasm for rowing gives us confidence that La Salle’s Rowing Program will continue to grow and prosper in the coming years.”
