Water Polo Tryouts 2019

On August 23rd, the coaching staff will finalize the JV and Varsity rosters. Please arrive at the gate to the outdoor pool at 6:50AM each morning. All preseason practices from August 12 through August 28 will run 7:00-10:00 AM except for August 26 (7:00-9:00 AM).

Please note: Students must have an active Appryse account and a current physical before they can try-out. Athletes must bring the following items to each practice:

  • swim suit
  • goggles
  • workout attire (t-shirt, athletic shorts, sneakers)
  • plenty of water (you can never have too much!)

Incoming athletes will begin each Monday and Wednesday morning in the fitness center for 45 minutes of lunges, pull-ups, squats, and light weight exercises. They will then move to the track for 45 minutes of running, stretching and dryland exercises.

Returning athletes will begin on the track for 45 minutes of running, stretching and dryland exercise followed by 45 minutes in the weight room.

At 8:30 AM, all athletes will move to the indoor pool for 45 minutes of swimming and treading exercises. The final 45 minutes of practice will take place in the outdoor pool, where players will receive water polo technique instruction, pass, shoot, and run through game-related drills.

For Tuesday and Thursday practices, all athletes will start on the track for 45 minutes of running, stretching and dryland exercises. They will then move to the indoor pool for an hour of swimming and treading exercises. Finally, they'll move to the outdoor pool for an hour and fifteen minutes of technique work, passing, shooting, game-related drills, and 6-on-6 half-pool scrimmaging.

Friday and Saturday practices will take place at both the indoor and outdoor pools. The first hour and thirty minutes will be indoors and include a number of swimming and treading exercises. The final hour and thirty minutes will be outdoors and include technique work, passing, shooting, game-related drills, and half-pool/full-pool 6-on-6 scrimmaging.

Preseason practices are mandatory. If an athlete is unable to attend one or more practices, please inform me prior to August 12. There will be no penalties if an athlete misses practice for a family emergency, SAT testing, or a family vacation scheduled before the preseason schedule was released.

Looking forward to a great preseason!
