How to Apply

In the fall, please sign up for an in peson face-to-face appointment with your college counselor. The link to request an appointment can be found in your College Counseling Seminar Class in Schoology.

Beginning in late August you will see Mrs. Palopoli in person and give her your list of prospective colleges and admissions deadline dates (Early Action/Early Decision/Regular Decision/Rolling). Please note this list does not need to be complete and can be changed! This list should match your college list in SCOIR. You need not have applied to the colleges at this time. You are simply informing the office of the deadlines you want them to meet on your behalf.

• Friday, September 6, 2024- If applying to a U.S. Service Academy, all information must be given to the College Counseling Office by this date.
• Friday, October 7, 2024 - Deadline to inform the College Counseling Office of any Early Decision or Early Action applications
• Friday, December 13, 2024 - Deadline to inform the College Counseling Office of any remaining Rolling or Regular Decision applications to be processed before the Christmas Break.

In addition to keeping Scoir updated, the student is responsible for sending the following information:

• The application through Common Application (or college's own application if not a member of the Common App)
• The application fee (contact Mrs Palopoli if you feel eligible for a fee waiver)
• Essays and activities resume when applicable
• SAT/ACT scores if sending them (need to be sent through College Board or ACT and require a separate fee)
• Self-reported academic record through SRAR or college specific platform (if required)

You should have asked at least one faculty member for a letter of recommendation in the spring by following this protocol:

• Fill out the Teacher Recommendation Request Form
• Personally give the teacher the form and/or email it to them
• Requested the teacher in Scoir (the portal they will upload their letters to and which we will send the letter from).
• Do you need more than one letter of recommendation? Check the Requirements Grid if a college requires more than one teacher letter of recommendation.

If you are applying to a Common Application college you are strongly encouraged to use the Common App as this is typically the most timely and efficient way to apply to colleges. 

When applying to a college that is not a member of the Common Application, you must use the college's own electronic application.

Do not wait until the deadline date to submit your application.  Servers crash, power outages happen, things go wrong. Give yourself some wiggle room.

The College Counseling Office is responsible for sending the following information to colleges:

• The official transcript
• Secondary school report
• School profile
• Teacher(s) letter of recommendation
• College Counselor letter of recommendation
• FERPA Waiver
