The Mission
Each summer, La Salle hosts an academic enrichment program for rising seventh and eighth grade students. The mission of the program is to create a welcoming and inclusive community comprised of students, teachers, staff, and counselors who are dedicated to creating personal connections and fostering personal growth.
In addition to preparation in English and Math for the High School Placement Test, students attend classes in art and science. The day ends with a weekly themed class. This year’s themes include photography, debate, coding, and public speaking. 25 current La Salle scholarship winners attended the program, including the full scholarship winners from the Classes of 2022 and 2023. In addition, numerous girls have gone on to excel at local high schools, including all-female schools like the Mount and Gwynedd. We anticipate that the summer of 2023 will give us the opportunity to gather as a community each day – in person – with the goal of celebrating our community and fine-tuning our talents. We hope to count your rising seventh and eighth students among them this summer. The program is open to boys and girls.
Who Can Attend?
The program is open to boys and girls who will be in either 7th or 8th grade during the 2023-24 school year.

What is Included in the Overall Calendar?
How Do I Select the Proper Math Class for My Student?
It is important to know that all students will take a diagnostic math test before beginning the program. This diagnostic is used to place students in the appropriate math section. In addition to the diagnostic, we ask that parents select a math class for their student during registration. Having both the results of the diagnostic and the parental input allow us to place students in the correct section with a high degree of precision. Also, in the event a student is unable to take the math diagnostic before the program begins, the parental selection serves as a back up for placement.
The four options are as follows.
Math 7.1, Math 7.2, Math 8.1, Math 8.2
Choose Math 7.1 or 7.2 if your student will be a 7th grader during the upcoming school year. Choose 7.1 if they are in honors math, choose 7.2 if they are in a regular math class.
Choose Math 8.1 or 8.2 if your student will be an 8th grader during the upcoming school year. Choose 8.1 if they are in honors math, choose 8.2 if they are in a regular math class.
All math courses cover content related to the High School Placement Test (HSPT) and no one section is bound to certain curricular topics. The purpose of the sections, then, is to aid in the process of grouping students together of similar abilities. The advanced sections cover may start with more complex topics and advance at a faster pace, whereas the regular sections may review more basic elements of the HSPT and move at a slower pace.
Math topics include: fractions, ratios and proportions, decimals, percents, number manipulation, non-geometric comparisons, coordinate plane, geometry, surface area and volume, geometric comparisons, sequences, problem solving, linear equations, linear inequalities, statistics and probability.
Is Transportation Available?
Transportation update as of June 1, 2023
Due to high demand, transportation for both sessions is nearly full and routes have been planned. If you are interested to know if your address fits along one of these routes and if there is space in the van that runs it, please contact Steve Horvath at horvaths@lschs.org. Be sure to include the session of interest (one, two, or full) and your pick up and drop off location in your email.”

Tabs
Welcome
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to La Salle College High School’s summer community! You are receiving this email because you have a student (or students) registered for La Salle’s Pre-7th and Pre-8th Summer Enrichment Program for the second session (July 10 – 20). We are thrilled your family will be a part of our community this summer at La Salle. Welcome once again and thank you for joining us!
Before our summer community converges on campus, there is some information to convey to ensure everyone feels confident, ready, and safe for the first day and beyond. The remainder of this message outlines a timeline for communication for the next week. My goal is to keep you informed without opening the firehose too wide. These communications will be catalogued at www.lschs.org/summer in the tab entitled Pre-7th and Pre-8th Summer Enrichment Program.
Monday, June 26 – Math diagnostic test – We ask that all students complete an online math diagnostic before 11:59 PM on Wednesday, June 28. The results will determine his or her math placement. A link to the diagnostic will be sent later today.
Tuesday, June 27 – Program details – Everything from pick up/drop off, lunch, dress code, medications, cell phones, etc. will be communicated via email on this date.
Wednesday, June 28 – Arrival instructions – This message will include what your students should expect upon arrival for their first day, focusing on where to go and who they will encounter.
Wednesday, June 28 & Friday/Saturday, July 7/8 – Transportation – Families signed up for transportation will receive an email on Wednesday, June 28, confirming the service. Van drivers will then be in touch with families on either Friday, July 7, or Saturday, July 8, to introduce themselves and provide exact details. As a reminder, any family who did not initially sign up for transportation may not now request it.
Please note that summer offices are closed starting Friday, June 30, through Friday, July 7. It is for this reason that all lead up communication for the program, except for transportation details, will conclude an entire week before it begins. We appreciate your assistance in using this coming week (June 26 – June 29) to communicate towards a successful start of the program.
Sincerely,
Steve Horvath
Math Diagnostics
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I’m writing to follow up on my message from this morning with information about the math diagnostic. As a reminder, the program communication is catalogued on La Salle’s website at www.lschs.org/summer.
Math diagnostic
Two data points are used to determine math placements for the summer program. The first is the math course selection on the registration form completed by parents and guardians earlier this spring. The second data point is the result of the math diagnostic. In the absence of a data point (the diagnostic, for example), students will be placed using the available information. This method allows us to group students of similar abilities and teach closely to their needs. These groupings also inform the sections for English classes.
To this end we ask that your student(s) complete this diagnostic before 11:59 PM on Wednesday, June 28. I very much appreciate your assistance in helping us prepare our students for the program.
Instructions and administration
- It will be accessed via the link below.
- It should take between 30 and 60 minutes. It should be taken only once.
- Because we are using this diagnostic to better understand what your student knows and determine class placement, it is essential that no outside help is given, and that students take the test using only their own abilities.
- Calculators and the use of artificial intelligence are NOT permitted. This diagnostic is not used to give the student a grade, but rather to place them in a group that best matches their abilities so they might learn as much as possible.
- Students may take the diagnostic any time after receiving the link. In order to evaluate the results and place students before the end of this week, we ask that students complete the diagnostic by 11:59 PM on Wednesday, June 28.
Diagnostic Link
Again, thank you for your assistance. It goes without saying, but no program such is this is possible without the collective support of family members like yourself.
The next time you will hear from me will be tomorrow with program details.
I am looking forward to meeting your sons and daughters on July 10 and personally welcoming them to the community.
Sincerely,
Steve Horvath
General Details

La Salle College High School is excited to offer its original S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) Camp to students entering grades 5, 6, 7 and 8. This weeklong science camp is an experiential learning opportunity unlike any other. Each of the 5 full days of camp expose participants to an academically enriched interconnection between the S.T.E.M. disciplines. An exciting team challenge approach makes learning stimulating, engaging and fun. This year’s theme titled “Energy and Your Body; Maintaining Peak Performance” uses practical science to understand and apply some interesting engineering challenges associated with energy use and consumption. As future scientifically minded leaders, it becomes more important than ever to learn to make choices that keep us strong and better able to serve tomorrow’s society. Daily activities include completing an assortment of hands-on tasks. Based heavily on the lab experience and data collection, the camp also includes regular applications of the engineering-design process. Segments of automation and programming will be incorporated throughout the week – no prior robotics/coding experience is necessary. Experimentation via the iterative design process is also part of the camp curriculum. A team approach to problem solving will be emphasized. Indoor and outdoor activities are planned. The use of La Salle’s environmental learning spaces, trails and fields will be utilized. Walking light to moderate distances will occurs daily.
