The Mission
Each summer, La Salle hosts an academic enrichment program for rising seventh and eighth grade students. The mission of the program is to create a welcoming and inclusive community comprised of students, teachers, staff, and counselors who are dedicated to creating personal connections and fostering personal growth.
In addition to preparation in English and Math for the High School Placement Test, students attend classes in art and science. The day ends with a weekly themed class. This year’s themes include photography, debate, coding, and public speaking. 25 current La Salle scholarship winners attended the program, including the full scholarship winners from the Classes of 2022 and 2023. In addition, numerous girls have gone on to excel at local high schools, including all-female schools like the Mount and Gwynedd. We anticipate that the summer of 2021 will give us the opportunity to gather as a community each day – in person – with the goal of celebrating our community and fine-tuning our talents. We hope to count your rising seventh and eighth students among them this summer. The program is open to boys and girls.
Who Can Attend?
The program is open to boys and girls who will be in either 7th or 8th grade during the 2021-2022 school year.

What Does a Typical Day Look Like?
The day is divided into three parts. In the morning, students start their day with a community wide morning meeting featuring guest speakers and team building exercises. Students then take classes in Math and English preparing them for the High School Placement Test. The second part of the day includes lunch and recreation. The afternoon finds students taking art or science, which rotate weekly, and they end the day with the weekly themed class. Below is a schedule for a typical day.
8:00 – 8:20 – Students arrive
8:20 – 8:30 – Morning Meeting
8:35 – 9:15 – Math

What are the Weekly Themed Classes?
Each week includes a unique class that takes place at the end of the day. These classes run from Monday through Wednesday of each week. Thursdays will feature a field day or a full-scale practice High School Placement Test (HSPT). The full session students will go on a field trip when the session one students take the HSPT on Thursday, July 1.

How Do I Select the Proper Math Class for My Student?
It is important to know that all students will take a diagnostic math test before beginning the program. This diagnostic is used to place students in the appropriate math section. In addition to the diagnostic, we ask that parents select a math class for their student during registration. Having both the results of the diagnostic and the parental input allow us to place students in the correct section with a high degree of precision. Also, in the event a student is unable to take the math diagnostic before the program begins, the parental selection serves as a back up for placement.
The four options are as follows.
Math 7.1, Math 7.2, Math 8.1, Math 8.2
Choose Math 7.1 or 7.2 if your student will be a 7th grader during the 2020-2021 school year. Choose 7.1 if they are in honors math, choose 7.2 if they are in a regular math class.
Choose Math 8.1 or 8.2 if your student will be an 8th grader during the 2020-2021 school year. Choose 8.1 if they are in honors math, choose 8.2 if they are in a regular math class.
All math courses cover content related to the High School Placement Test (HSPT) and no one section is bound to certain curricular topics. The purpose of the sections, then, is to aid in the process of grouping students together of similar abilities. The advanced sections cover may start with more complex topics and advance at a faster pace, whereas the regular sections may review more basic elements of the HSPT and move at a slower pace.
Math topics include: fractions, ratios and proportions, decimals, percents, number manipulation, non-geometric comparisons, coordinate plane, geometry, surface area and volume, geometric comparisons, sequences, problem solving, linear equations, linear inequalities, statistics and probability.
Is Transportation Available?
Yes. We customize routes to pick up students at home or at a convenient nearby location if workable with our distance and time limitations.
The fees for transportation are below.
Transportation for session one only (June 21 – July 1) - $225
Transportation for session two only (July 12 – July 22 - $225
Transportation for the full session (June 2 – July 22) - $400
Every effort will be made to accommodate your transportation needs; however, this service is not guaranteed as it depends on a route’s viability and an area’s demonstrated need. If we are unable to provide transportation for you, you will receive a full refund. Due to COVID mitigation efforts van capacity will be lowered to increase distancing and as a result vans will fill up fast!
You may be asked to drive your student to a common meeting point to facilitate transportation.
One-way transportation is not available.
There will be no refunds for transportation if a hybrid model goes into effect, but transportation will still be provided when students attend school.
What are the Contingencies for COVID-19?
We are hoping to hold the entire program in person, and we are very confident we can do so. However, it is possible that we will need to make a switch to a hybrid or virtual model. The hybrid model allows half of the students to attend in person while the other half remain at home. The virtual model requires all student to take classes virtually from home. What follows are a few key points about each model and how it would change the program.
The hybrid model
- In this scenario, students will be grouped into two categories, which will be referred to as A and B for the purpose of explanation.
- On Monday and Tuesday of a given week of the program…
- Group A will attend in person
- Group B will attend online
- · On Wednesday and Thursday of a given week of the program…
- Group A will attend online
- Group B will attend in person
- In person students will follow the schedule as outlined in the previous section.
- At home students will attend the morning meeting and take English and Math classes. They will not attend classes in the afternoon.
- There will be no program discounts if we switch to a hybrid model.
- The decision to go hybrid will take place before the start of session one or session two and will remain in place for the length of a two week session.
- There will be no refunds for transportation if a hybrid model goes into effect, but transportation will still be provided.
The virtual model
- In this scenario, students will attend virtually, meaning all students will be at home.
- Students will attend the morning meeting as well as English and Math classes. Afternoon classes will not take place.
- Refunds in the amount of $100 / week will be issued for the virtual model.
- The decision to be all virtual will take place before the start of session one or session two and will be updated at the end of each week. It is possible to have a two week session which includes two virtual weeks or one virtual week and one hybrid week.

La Salle College High School is excited to offer its S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics) Camp to students entering grades 5, 6, 7 and 8. This weeklong science camp is an experiential learning opportunity unlike any other. Each of the 5 full days of camp exposes participants to an academically enriched interconnection between the S.T.E.A.M. disciplines. An exciting team challenge theme makes learning stimulating, engaging and fun. This year’s team challenge titled “Perseverance & Ingenuity; A Model for Success” uses practical science to understand and apply the engineering challenges associated with an intergalactic space travel operation that begins right here on the Belcroft Campus. Daily activities include successfully completing an assortment of hands-on tasks associated with the culminating end-of-week mission. Based heavily on the engineering-design process, the experience will incorporate various facets of advanced rocketry, robotics, and coding. Experimentation via the iterative design process will occur daily. A team approach to problem solving will be emphasized. Indoor and outdoor activities are being planned. No prior robotics/coding experience is necessary.

Summer Boost Program
Algebra Boost
The Algebra Boost Workshop is designed for students who have completed Algebra I (either in 7th or 8th grade) and are looking to start 8th grade Algebra 2. The Algebra Boost Program may be used as an Algebra 2 Placement Test review course, but please note that completion of this course alone does not guarantee that students will be placed directly into an Algebra 2 class. Course placement will be determined by the results of the La Salle Algebra Placement test during the end of June. Any questions please contact Chair of Math Department Mr. Tom Lang at LangT@lschs.org.
Class dates & times:

The Spanish Boost course may be used as a Spanish 2 Placement Test prep course, however, completing the course does not automatically place a student in Spanish 2. Course assignments are determined by the placement test in late June. Any questions please contact the Department Chair for World Languages, Mr. Stephen Horvath at horvaths@lschs.org.
